Diffusion welding is an essential process in the production of conventional homogenizing plates. Because the welding process does not require additional welding materials, it can be applied in large-scale production. In recent years, the demand for products such as water-cooled panels and water-cooled heads has been increasing. The diversity of size, structural shape, and application scenarios has led many end customers to pay attention to its welding process. Diffusion welding and brazing are the two most widely used welding processes.

Diffusion welding is a welding method that tightly presses two workpieces to be welded together and heats them in a vacuum or protective atmosphere furnace, causing micro plastic deformation in the small unevenness of the two welding surfaces, achieving close contact. In the subsequent heating and insulation, atoms diffuse with each other to form a metallurgical connection. This type of diffusion welding is usually called solid-state diffusion.

Compared with brazing (adding solder), diffusion welding can reduce working time during assembly, save solder, reduce pollution, and avoid the problem of poor solder control blocking the water flow channel. The smoothness of the two welding surfaces will affect the sealing performance of the welding. If impurities, foreign particles, etc. are adsorbed on the welding surface, it can also lead to poor sealing. For diffusion welding, it is best for both sides of the workpiece to be welded to be flat, which can greatly simplify the welding fixture. For products like water-cooled heads, it is possible to consider CNC machining the internal flow channel features first, followed by diffusion welding. After welding is completed, the surface can be precision machined. However, it should be noted that if there are microchannels inside, they are not easy to clean. Before secondary processing, the inlet and outlet water holes need to be blocked.
